ABOUT THE WORK
Carousel
Miles Aldridge is one of the most significant contemporary photographers, and his artistic style is truly unmistakable. In his impressive photographs, the British fashion photographer creates alternate worlds that are precisely composed, saturated with colour, and viewed through his typical cinematic approach. Aldridge summarises the themes running through his works in four words: Glamour, religion, darkness, and domesticity.
The master of composition constructs his surreal dreamscapes in everyday settings. Youthful models appear in the kitchen or bedroom, either as re-incarnations of Mary Magdalene or as glamorous and sensual icons. The subjects of these exaggerated pictures could not be more filmic, dramatic or artificial. At the same time, however, there is always a mystical and enigmatic aura about these luminous compositions.
The collector’s edition portfolio “Carousel” brings together 32 lithographic and silkscreen prints, presenting an unrivalled look into the aritst’s work over the past decade. The works from the portfolio are also available individually: Miles Aldridge at his best!
“Photography is a medium of moments; that's the way it works. But what I'm interested in are images that attempt to last forever.” Miles Aldridge
ABOUT THE ARTIST
A born Londoner, Aldridge has been one of the most sought-after international fashion photographers since the 1990’s, often mentioned in the same breath as Guy Bourdin or David LaChapelle. Aldridge studied Art before his career in photography, and he gained international acclaim for his work in influential print media such as Vogue and The New York Times.
Aldridge cites great filmmakers such as David Lynch and Federico Fellini as sources of inspiration. His works have been exhibited globally and are also part of the permanent collections in the National Portrait Gallery and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
