Original Motion Images from LUMAS
Sometimes, everything stops. But only in a photograph. To some people, the term ‘movement pictures’ may sound like a contradiction. How can a static image hope to represent motion? This paradox is at the heart of a flourishing genre. In our galleries and online platform, LUMAS presents original motion images that set the world spinning, just by standing still.
Start a Movement: Pictures at LUMAS
Cameras record a period of time, not a single moment. Photographers can prolong or shorten this time span by adjusting the shutter speed on their cameras. With a long exposure, an object or figure in movement will appear blurred or smeared in the final capture. In motion blur photography of this kind, movement is uniquely represented as it occurs through time.
On the other hand, some motion pics bring the action to a standstill. With the shutter open for only a fraction of a second, the final photo seems to depict a single moment. Gone in the blink of an eye. Still, the world never truly ceases to be in flux. The beauty of motion images is that they are only a snapshot of a wider narrative.
Imagine a dancer caught in mid-lift, never touching the floor—or a sprinter crossing the finish line for an eternity. Or the frozen waves of an ocean in pics on your wall. Motion images tell stories through incomplete gestures and unfinished arcs.
Nothing beats this anticipation. Movement pictures from LUMAS keep you in suspense—ensuring the drama never ends. And yet, there’s one thing we don’t mind giving away upfront: our photography is original, and it will move you.
Exclusive LUMAS Editions
The LUMAS portfolio is always in motion. Images from top photographers come to our collection all the time. That’s because we have a team of experts attending auctions, exhibits and gallery openings across the globe in search of powerful photography. Our findings are always exciting, and we want to share them with you.
At LUMAS, we want everyone to be an art collector. Not just curators or millionaires, but people who love art for art’s sake. People like us. So we collaborate with artists to produce limited edition print runs of movement pictures; these are high-quality, hand-signed editions that are true collector’s items.
LUMAS in Motion: Pics and Prints
Our system is simple. We keep LUMAS editions down to 75 or 100 prints. These are exclusive to LUMAS – meaning the only other place you might see your photograph is hanging in a museum or in the private collection of the artist. In this case, the work will only become better know, increasing its value. Otherwise, your motion pic stays between you and a small group of collectors.
As an added assurance, we include an Edition Certificate with each one of our prints. This document adheres to the international standards recognized by auction houses. It contains important information on the motion pics we offer: date stamp, edition number, and print number.
In addition to these special editions, we also offer a range of Open Editions. These are prints with unlimited print runs that we can offer at a reduced rate. What distinguishes these works, as with all of our offerings, is the quality of the print and the Edition Certificate. These make wonderful gifts and are a good introduction to our galleries.
LUMAS + WhiteWall
LUMAS Editions are the result of an outstanding partnership with WhiteWall. It’s an award winning photo lab that’s won the recognition of photographers and collectors alike. WhiteWall uses Fujicolor Crystal Archive Paper for unparalleled definition and brilliance. What’s more, the team works with the artist to ensure their standards are met.
As a collector visiting LUMAS, you have control over the framing and mounting of our motion images. We offer a selection of contemporary display options that put the focus on the work itself, with as few distractions as possible.
Choosing a print from our collection of movement pictures means you support the artists we love and liberate their art from the hands of the few.
