David Bowie Portraits from LUMAS

A genre-bending superstar, David Bowie was one of the most influential musicians of our time. He was an exceptional artist whose trademarks included heterochromatic eyes and an incredible aptitude for self-transformation. In the seventies, Bowie developed his red-haired, glam rock alter-ego Ziggy Stardust, making waves in the fashion world with brightly colored jumpsuits and extravagant blazers. Experience the musician’s many vibrant facets with the expressive David Bowie pictures in our diverse art collection!

First up, we have a remarkable lenticular print of Bowie by renowned portrait photographer Gavin Evans. Three portraits are combined into one astonishing work of art; each revealed when viewed from a different angle.

Evans recalls his session with David Bowie: “Despite his legendary status, the star man was incredibly modest and down-to-earth. Ever the showman, he produced a pair of glass eyes and sapphire-blue contact lenses for me to shoot. The contact lenses provided a subtle yet profound disguise of his signature eyes. Later, Bowie requested a print from the shoot to hang above him in his Manhattan office and to grace the cover of the V&A’s Bowie Is book. It was a great surprise to me how my ‘Shh’ image of David came to be so iconic. Perhaps it is because his gesture can mean something different and deeply personal to each who sees it.”

LUMAS artist Richard Brandão examines the musical legend from a different perspective. With his dot-painting technique, rows of colorful circles form an image of Bowie in three-quarter profile. Get your favorite piece by Gavin Evans or Richard Brandão now – these extraordinary David Bowie pictures are even available in two different sizes.

Discover the work of André Monet, who takes yet another approach in his portraits. Monet uses fragments of maps and musical notation to immortalize the pop icon in a unique way. Looking for smaller pictures of David Bowie? Our ART NOW pictures show the musician in a good light. Experience a passionate Bowie onstage or bring home Rafael Barletta’s minimal Ziggy Stardust portrait above the enduring lyric: “Put on your red shoes and dance the blues.”
